The information we end up with

Almost all of it comes from you, in one of three ways: you fill in the estimate form on this site, you call the number at the top of the page, or you send us a picture of the damage. What that leaves us holding is typically:

• Your name and the number you rang from or typed in.
• An email address, if you gave one.
• The address the work would happen at, and anything you told us about getting in.
• Your description of what has gone wrong, plus any photographs you sent.
• A recording and a written transcript of the call, if you rang us — see the next section.
• Standard server records: the pages your browser asked our host for, and roughly where the request came from.

Calls are answered by an automated assistant, and they are recorded

When you ring the number on this site, the call may be picked up by an automated voice assistant rather than a person. It is software. It asks what has happened, where the property is and when suits you, writes that down, and passes it to the tradesman. The call is recorded and turned into text so nothing gets lost between the phone and the van, and so we can check we quoted what you actually described. Say that you would rather speak to a person and the assistant will take a number and have somebody ring you. Say that you do not want the recording kept and we will delete the audio, though we will keep the written notes needed to do the job. If you would rather not be recorded at all, use the form instead.

What it gets used for

• Working out a price and telling you what it is.
• Booking a date and finding your property.
• Ringing or emailing you about that job, and only that job.
• Keeping a record of what was quoted and what was done, in case a question comes up afterwards.

Who else sees it

The tradesman assigned to your job sees everything you sent, because he cannot price or do the work otherwise. Beyond that, your details pass through the companies that run our telephone number, our automated answering, our website forms and our email. They handle it on our instructions and for no purpose of their own. Nobody buys this information from us, because we do not put it up for sale, rent it out, or hand it to advertisers or list brokers. The only other circumstance in which we would give it up is a court order or something similar with legal force behind it.

This site itself is very quiet

These pages are plain static files. As of the date at the top, they set no cookies, run no advertising tags, and carry no analytics or session-tracking script of any kind. There is nothing here following you to your next website. Should we ever add measurement — a search-console verification tag, say, or a visitor counter — this paragraph gets rewritten before it goes on, not after.

How long any of this hangs around

Call audio is kept for about ninety days and then goes. Transcripts, estimates and job notes are kept for several years, because that is how long a question about past work realistically takes to arrive. Enquiries that never turned into a job are cleared out annually. Ask us to remove your file sooner and we will, unless there is a live invoice or a dispute attached to it.

Text messages

We are not running a text-message marketing list and you will not be signed up to one by ringing us or filling in a form. If a tradesman texts you, it will be about your own job — a time, a question, a photo of the finished wall.

Asking us to delete something

Ring the number on this site or email us and ask. Tell us the phone number or address you contacted us about so we can find the right file. You are also welcome to ask what we hold, and we will tell you plainly rather than sending a form.

Not for children

This is a service for property owners and the people who manage property. It is not aimed at children and we do not knowingly keep information about anyone under thirteen. If that has happened by accident, tell us and it goes.

When this page changes

The date under the heading is the date it last changed. We rewrite it when what we actually do changes, and the current version is always the one on this page.
