Drywall Installation & Hanging in Huntington, WV | New Board for Remodels, Additions & Basements
When the framing is up and the rough-ins are inspected, the room needs board. Drywall Repair Huntington hangs and finishes new drywall for kitchen and bath remodels, additions, attic conversions, garages, and basement finishes across Huntington, Barboursville, and the growing subdivisions in Ona and Hurricane. We work for homeowners directly and as the drywall sub for remodelers who would rather not do it themselves.
Hung and finished to a level 4, new drywall typically runs roughly $1.75 to $3.50 per square foot in 2026 cost surveys, with the Huntington market toward the lower half. We quote the room, in writing, with the finish level and board types spelled out.

Board selection: half-inch, 5/8, moisture and mold resistant
Standard half-inch board on walls with 16-inch framing. Five-eighths on ceilings, on 24-inch framing, and on the wall between a garage and the house where code calls for a fire-rated assembly. Moisture-resistant green board, or the mold-resistant grade, in bathrooms, laundries, and basements, and cement board behind tile. Using the right sheet costs a few dollars more and prevents the sag and mold repairs we get called back for in other peopleโs work.
How we hang it
Ceilings first, then walls, sheets run horizontally with joints staggered so no four corners meet. Screws at 12 inches on ceilings and 16 on walls, set just below the paper without breaking it. Outlets and boxes cut with a rotary tool so the cover plate hides the edge. Corners get metal or vinyl bead. A tight hang is what makes a fast, flat finish possible.
Then we finish it
Hanging and finishing are two skills, and we do both so there is no hand-off. Every install includes taping and finishing to the level you choose and a sanded, primed surface ready for paint. If you want the room painted as well, we bundle it through drywall repair and painting.
Additions and attic conversions in older homes
Tying new drywall into an existing plaster house is its own problem: plaster is thicker, so the new board has to be shimmed or built out to land flush, and the joint between them needs a flexible transition. We do this constantly in Southside and Highlawn. See plaster repair for how the transition is handled.
Questions about Drywall Installation & Hanging
How much does it cost to drywall a room in Huntington?
Hung and finished to level 4, roughly $1.75 to $3.50 per square foot of wall and ceiling. A 12 by 12 bedroom with 8-foot ceilings is about 530 square feet, so figure somewhere around $950 to $1,850 plus paint.
Do you install drywall in garages?
Yes. The wall between garage and house gets 5/8-inch fire-rated board per code, and detached garages are quoted with the board that suits how the space is used.
Can you hang drywall the builder left unfinished?
Yes. Finishing board that someone else hung is a routine part of our work.
